Today, these volunteers were out with our Fire Safety Education House sharing some very important messages to all the local Grade 3 classes at Sussex Corner Elementary School, Sussex Elementary School and Apohaqui Elementary School. The children learned how to safely respond to a smoke alarm activation in their home. Along with this we reviewed the five messages on our fingers for how to be fire safe. If the smoke alarm sounds:
1) Get up and walk!
2) Know 2 ways out!
3) Get outside and stay outside!
4) Go to your meeting place and have a back up plan!
5) For this to work, you need a working smoke alarm. Have one, at least, on every level of your home and if possible in every bedroom. Check them once a month and change batteries when you change your clocks. Please don’t forget to put the battery back in the alarm on those days when you burn your toast or supper!

High fives kids! We would like to thank the principals, teachers and staff from these great schools who believe in educating students on fire safety! If you care for children, talk to them about fire safety. We all have a part to play in fire prevention!
